Miami cops ride to Key West, raise $15k
Thirteen members of the Miami police department raised more than $15,000 through a bicycle ride from Miami to Key West. The ride was a fundraiser for Hope For The Warriors, a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a sense of self, family and hope for veterans, service members and military families.
Miami police officer Joseph McCrink, a competitive road bicyclist and member of the Miami police department’s Elite Bicycle Response Team organized and rode in the event. The officers left Miami at 11:30 p.m. and rode the 147 miles to Key West through the night.
“For several years, I’ve organized bike rides as a way to celebrate my upcoming retirement and we were excited to support Hope For The Warriors this year,” McCrink said. “This year, we wanted to honor veterans. It’s one day of our time and that’s very little to give to help our veterans. Our group all love to ride, and they all love to give back in events like this.”
Hope For The Warriors, which has been established for 16 years assists veterans, service members and military families with a variety of services including health and wellness, sports and recreation and transition services.
“We’re honored that Joseph and his fellow officers chose to support the military families we serve this Veterans Day,” said Robin Kelleher, co-founder and CEO of the nonprofit organization. “We recognize their support and sacrifices they make every day in the line of duty and appreciate them paying it forward to others that serve.”
