The Mokwheel Obsidian Full-Suspension eBike, shares some similarities with the Basalt, but also differs in some key areas.

Most notably, the Obsidian has a rear shock absorber to help with traction while riding off-road. Another difference is that the Obsidian uses a 1×8 drivetrain, as opposed to the Basalt’s 7 speeds. The motor features an upgrade from 750- to 1,000-watts, which is paired to a Samsung 48V 19.6Ah battery. Finally the Obsidian appears to ship with front and rear fenders.

The rest of the specs are similar among the two models. Stopping the 77-pound eBike is accomplished by Tektro hydraulic disc brakes. The advertised range is 60-80 miles on a charge, and the top speed is reported to be 28 mph, using level 5 pedal assist. Total payload capacity (including the rider) is 400 pounds.

Coupled with the 26×4 inch fat bike tires, a 130mm travel front suspension fork assists the rear shock in providing a smooth ride. A headlight with two high-intensity bulbs helps provide visibility during the day and safety at night.

The Obsidian currently retails for $2,299 at mokwheel.com. It is available in three color schemes: Black and Red, Black and Yellow or Jungle Camo. The aluminum frame is available in one size and is recommended for riders between 5’6″ – 6’8″.
