The Ride1Up Prodigy V2 eBike offers some exciting technology such as a Continuous Variable Transmission hub and a Gates Carbon belt-drive system.

The CVT in the Prodigy is an internal geared hub that uses similar mechanics, but instead of cogs or metal sprockets, it uses metal ball bearings inside the hub to transmit power. The CVT hub promises near silent operation, effortless shifting under load, and an infinite range of gear ratios. This allows riders to find the perfect gear for any incline or riding condition without abrupt gear changes.

Paired to the CVT on the Prodigy V2 eBike is a Gates Carbon Belt Drive, which is reported to last longer than chains, never need grease and requires little, if any, maintenance.

As with the prior version of the Prodigy, the motor is a Brose TF Sprinter German-made mid-drive motor with 90nm torque. The battery is a 36V 14ah Phylion BN21 with Samsung cells and smart battery management system. A Brose 1.5″ color display shows ride data and pedal assist mode, of which there are four.

Braking is handled by Tektro HD-M745 hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors. The 27.5″ wheels are wrapped in 2.25″ Maxxis Rekon Race tan-sidewalled tires. Alloy fenders cover both front and rear wheels. Up front is a 100mm travel air suspension fork, which dampens the bumps. A headlight provides daytime running and nighttime vision assistance. In the back, a 40-pound rated cargo rack is home to a rear taillight.

The CVT version of the Prodigy uses a Enviolo Stepless Grip Twist Shifter, while the standard version relies on the microSHIFT SL-M819 Advent Trigger Shifter, paired with a microSHIFT RD-M619M Advent 9-Speed and 11-34 cassette.

The CVT version of the Prodigy weighs 61 pounds and the chain version weights 58 pounds. Both bikes have a payload capacity of 300 pounds. The step-thru model is geared for riders 5’1″ to 6’3″ tall, while the traditional step-over frame is suitable for those 5’6″ to 6’4″.

The Prodigy V2 eBike with the CVT and belt drive options retails for $2,595 at ride1up.com. There is also a version with a chain-equipped drivetrain for $2,295. Both drivetrain options are available on step-thru or traditional step-over frames.
