Jack the Bike Man nonprofit burglarized over Christmas
Jack the Bike Man, a West Palm Beach nonprofit that gives away hundreds of bikes each year was broken into over Christmas. The burglar stole all of the cash from the shop’s register.
“Someone broke into our shop at Jack the Bike Man between 3:40 PM on Christmas Eve (Dec 24th) and 10:00 AM this morning (Dec 26th), stealing all our cash from our register,” The shop posted on Facebook. “This is heartbreaking, especially during the holidays, when we are focused on giving back to our community.”
President Alejandro Hernandez told WPTV that since posting on Facebook, a donor gave the nonprofit hundreds of dollars.
“It’s a messed-up world sometimes, but there are a lot of good people in the world,” Hernandez told the station. “We just sometimes tend to focus on the bad ones.”
Hernandez’s asking if anyone has any information, or has camera footage near the shop, which is located at 420 Claremore Drive, to report it to West Palm Beach Police.
Since 2007, Jack the Bike Man has restored and donated more than 32,000 bicycles to the West Palm Beach Community. While the organization has operated as a nonprofit for 17 years, its founder, Samuel H. “Jack” Hairston III, began this mission of restoring and donating bikes long before achieving nonprofit status. Hairston’s legacy continues to inspire the organization’s work following his death in 2023.
