Former Florida Legislator Loranne Ausley posted on Facebook last week that she’s back in Tallahassee after spending more than two months in the hospital following a bicycle crash last November during a triathlon.

“There is no real way to thank everyone who has been with us for the past 2 months,” Ausley posted on Facebook Jan. 9. “You all have heard from Bill Hollimon, the VERY BEST husband and friend who has been with me every step of the way – from the bike accident on November 2nd at Ironman Florida to intensive care units, the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, and more than 2 months of living in a hospital.”

Ausley, four-time Ironman finisher, had neck surgery after the accident and then was transferred to a Brain and Spine rehab center in Atlanta.

“Thanks to the love, support, and prayers of so many, we have actually returned home for the next phase of recovery,” she wrote. “My tracheotomy was removed yesterday, and I will start outpatient therapy with a vengeance tomorrow. I still have a LOT to do, but we decided Tallahassee is the best place for this. Thanks so much to so many for so much. I love and appreciate you all. Please understand that I am focused on recovery….. there will be plenty of time for us all to catch up in the months to come!”

Ausley is an attorney with Hollimon, P.A. and Democratic politician who served as a member of the Florida Senate from 2020 until 2022. Prior to her time in the Senate, she represented the Tallahassee area in the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008 and then again from 2016 to 2020.

According to her profile on Hollimon’s website, Ausley currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Institute for Child Success and the Claude Pepper Foundation. Ausley is a member of the Orange Bowl Committee and Leadership Florida’s Class XX, and a NewDEAL Leader.
